Commuter Appreciation Week

It’s officially the most wonderful time of the semester again! I know what you’re thinking, “Syllabus Week” and Spring Break have already passed, so what else is left to celebrate?

The answer is: Commuter Appreciation Week!!!

All week long, Off-Campus Student Services will be hosting a variety of events just for you. Here at OCSS, we recognize the additional time and effort that commuter students put in on a daily basis to be successful at UConn. We want to reward you for all of the hard work that you’ve done this semester, and offer you the motivation necessary to complete the academic year strong.

Coffee Kickoff

Join us for our Commuter Appreciation Week kickoff event on Monday, April 3rd from 8:30-10:30 am in Student Union Room 104. There is no better way than to start your Monday morning off with FREE coffee, scones, and fruit. Your attendance will also enter you into a giveaway for a Gas Gift Card! Also, be on the lookout for our favorite pink hippo pal Hugo, for he’ll be walking around the Student Union handing out extra special surprises and tons of high-fives and hugs.

Breakfast Sandwich Grab-N’-Go

What’s better than free breakfast? Free breakfast two days in a row, of course! Be sure to stop by our office in Student Union Room 315 on Tuesday, April 4th between 8:00-10:30 am for a delicious breakfast sandwich compliments of the Off-Campus Student Services staff. While you’re in the office, take a look at all of the resources and information we provide especially for off-campus and commuter students.

Soup to Nuts Vehicle Maintenance Demo

As a commuter student, your car is most likely an extremely important part of your everyday life. As such, you should be equipped with the knowledge necessary to be able to care for it in routine or unpredictable situations. On Wednesday, April 5th we will be hosting a vehicle maintenance demonstration on Fairfield way from 12:00-1:00 pm. At this event, you will gain hands on experience regarding how to change your tires and car fluids. Although the information you will learn from the demonstration is invaluable, it wouldn’t be Commuter Appreciation Week without giveaways. The first 30 attendees will receive a free car kit complete with jumper cables, a first aid kit, batteries, a flashlight, ponchos, and much more. The first 50 attendees will also receive a voucher for free soup from the Food for Thought food truck!

Pizza with the Police

Nothing says “you’re appreciated” more than free pizza does. On Thursday, April 6th come to Homer Babbidge Library’s Staff Lounge on the plaza level between 12:00-1:00 pm and get to know the UConn Police Department. Learn more about your safety on and off-campus while enjoying a delicious lunch with the UConn’s biggest advocates for student’s well-being! *limited to first 30 attendees

Career Style Breakfast on the Go

Finish off your week of freebies and food on Friday, April 7th from 8:30-9:30 in X-Lot. Our Off-Campus Student Services staff will be handing out breakfast bags filled with snacks and a drink to power you through your day. We will also be distributing information from the Center for Career Development to help ensure that your academic success translates into career success in the near future!

On behalf of the entire Off-Campus Student Services staff, we want to express how proud we are of your contributions to the UConn community as off-campus and commuter students. We look forward to seeing you throughout the week at the events we have planned especially with you in mind, and hope they provide you with the motivation necessary to continue your success!
